Soccer verses La Rocca

1st XI came second by seven goals to nil. The teams were evenly matched in midfield and it was a competitive game. Their passing was sharper and their finishing more clinical. Several great saves were made by Kai who got his body behind the ball.

The Mighty 2nd XI won!

The seconds walk out and shake hands before the match.

2:2 at full time (0:2 HT) 5:4 after 7 penalties each.
Penalties converted by Sam, Henry and the winning goal was blasted into the net by Oscar.

Both our goals were penalties converted by Josh M. and Cosmo (who came on as a sub for the last 10 minutes).

They were more skilful than us but we really played with heart and commitment.

Particular mentions for Zuhayr and Joey at the back for listening and channelling the attacking players wide and working hard. Big thank you to Zuhayr for stepping up to take one if the first five penalties too!

Captain Josh M. played superbly controlling the game from central defence putting in important tackles and passing the ball coolly out of the penalty area. His first penalty was buried into the top corner. His headed goal was disallowed as a penalty had been awarded ... This one he missed. However, his header was the moment of the match... Moment of the day!

Aaron played solidly in the first half putting in useful tackles, his cool, unflustered demeanour helping to give the team confidence.
Both teams at the end

Oscar and Myles worked hard in midfield chasing the opposition down and spoiling their passing game. Both players put themselves forward to take penalties too.

The wings were marshalled by Aamir on the right and Freddie B. on the left. They attacked and defended, harrying down the attacking opposition. Freddie put in a couple of very useful crosses sand Aamir very nearly got on the end of a ball in from the left.

Oscar buries the winning goal

Up front Aran and Sam looked dangerous on the break and worked back hard to help the midfield defend.

The floodlights go on ...

That leaves the Man of the Match, Henry in goal. He made several cat-like saves during the game and his distribution was intelligent and helped start several counterattacking moves. He also saved four penalties in the shoot out ... Yes, HE SAVED FOUR PENALTIES!
Henry dives to his right for another save.

The Mighty 2nd XI

The bus back is full of very tired, but happy children.
